Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook Review

Weight Watchers New Complete Cookbook

I got this for my wife as a Christmas gift and she really liked it for a few different reasons. For one, it has the updated program information in it and goes along those lines, so she liked that. It also is set up nice with good strong pages and sort of a spiral book set-up. One review I read called this book more of a folder, which I have to totally disagree. This thing is about 1.5 inches thick and is well made. I have no doubt this can survive a lot of cooking in the kitchen. I am not the one that does most of the cooking so I can't comment totally on some aspects, but it was well received and seems to be the right price. I think I paid around $15 on this site.

Suzanne Somers' Get Skinny on Fabulous Food Review

Suzanne Somers' Get Skinny on Fabulous Food

This book had a lot of the same information as Suzanne Somer's other book on Somersizing "Eat Great, Lose Weight", however, this book has some updates to the original book as well as many more wonderful recipes. I originally started the Somersizing program after hearing that it could level out hormones. Having had two diseases that related to an imbalance in hormones, the idea that this program could balance out my hormones was the big draw. I did have some weight to lose, but that was not the major incentive for starting this program. After 10 weeks on the program, I never felt better in my life. I'm menopausal, but my hot flashes and night sweats have diminished to almost non-existent. I'm eating well and plenty and have so much energy. Oh, and I've lost 19 pounds to date. Some of my friends also started the program when I told them how well I was doing. All have had good results so far. One friend, who is diabetic, is amazed that her blood levels are the same all day. There are no more drastic spikes. Food combining can be a little tough to understand in the beginning, but once you master it, it is not that difficult to maintain. The main problem is the way that we have been conditioned here in the United States to eat over the years (pizza, white pasta with meat sauce, hamburgers, meat and potatoes and chemically altered foods that sit on the shelf for years). I highly recommend this way of eating to anyone who wants to feel healthy and slim down.

101 Ways to Work Out with Weights: Effective Exercises to Sculpt Your Body and Burn Fat Review

101 Ways to Work Out with Weights: Effective Exercises to Sculpt Your Body and Burn Fat
Average Reviews:

I can't tell you how many books I have looked at for weight training with weights, just to open them up and they are all gym related exercises on gym equipment at the gym. I guess its good if you have a gym membership, but the point of me looking for a book using handweights was because that was all I had at home, just hand weights. This book delivers. In a few moves, she uses a weight bench for positioning, but you can also use a chair or your coffee table or a step. She also has a section for using a stability ball. I don't have one but I plan on buying one.
This is a great book for people who only have hand weights and nothing else. The pictures show the moves well. Over all, good book for those of us with limited equipment but still want a good workout.

Low Fat Lies Review

Low Fat Lies
Average Reviews:

This is a very good book indeed: informative, clearly written, realistic, and practical in its approach. Drawing upon scientific evidence, the authors expose the flaws in fad diets and provide a sound, healthful, and easy-to-follow alternative: the Mediterranean diet, with its modest amount of meat, lots of fruits and vegetables, use of olive oil as the primary fat, and daily glass or two of an alcoholic beverage (preferably red wine). They stress the importance of eating and drinking in moderation as well as physical activity, recommending walking as probably the single best form of exercise. For really exciting recipes, however, I turn to my extensive library of cookbooks. One book that I have enjoyed reading and cooking from immensely is "Recipes and Remembrances from an Eastern Mediterranean Kitchen" by Sonia Uvezian. In addition to recipes for uncomplicated dishes that are not only healthful but also taste wonderful, this fascinating volume contains an important message: slow down and smell the roses. Of the two dozen-plus Mediterranean cookbooks I own, Uvezian's is by far my favorite. I was amazed at how compatible "Low-Fat Lies" and "Recipes and Remembrances" are in their philosophy; one book actually reinforces the other. In reminiscing about her eastern Mediterranean childhood, Uvezian describes precisely the life style Dr. Vigilante encourages. The region's love affair with food in general and vegetables in particular and the gardening, walking, biking, dancing, and socializing are all part of her memories. Vigilante's Italian "passeggiata" (daily promenade) is Uvezian's "shamm al-hawa" (smell the air) and serves the same purpose--in the doctor's words "a source of exercise, fellowship, relaxation, communication, psychotherapy, street theater, and pure amusement." "Low-Fat Lies" and "Recipes and Remembrances" have deepened my understanding and appreciation of the Mediterranean diet as no other books have, and I recommend them both very highly.

Low-fat diets are unsatisfying, nutritionally deficient, and just don't taste very good. They may even be dangerous.Extensive research shows that high triglyceride levels--elevated by very low fat diets--are associated with the same health risks, such as heart disease, that often prompt people to start low fat diets in the first place.Low Fat Lies not only exposes the low fat scam, it offers an alternative: A delicious, satisfying and healthy way of eating and living.

Golden Door Cooks at Home: Favorite Recipes from the Celebrated Spa Review

Golden Door Cooks at Home: Favorite Recipes from the Celebrated Spa
Average Reviews:

This is an excellent cookbook for anyone who is interested in creating an elegant, healthy menu or lifestyle. Dean's recipes are clearly explained and filled with wholesome, fresh ingredients. There are simple recipes (like preparing perfect vegetables) and more complicated ones, including healthful vegetarian, vegan, fish, seafood and meat selections. Because more and more people would prefer to be served foods that are both tasty and good for them, I have used this cookbook to prepare both lunch and dinner menus. Each time, my guests (both men and women) were delighted by the flavors and really pleased to learn that they could have a second helping without worry (especially the men!) The crab cakes on roasted pineapple with sauce remoulade is a huge success - filling, refined, and luxurious - you would never know that the sauce is made with silky tofu. Wow, so guilt free! If you have hungry guests, it's easy to add a soup or pasta course and still keep the menu very healthy. This book is also helpfully organized. A number of recipe selections include information for an entire course, and complete nutritional information on each one can be found in a table in the back of the book, so menu choices can be thoughtful and informed.
Another reason I like Golden Door Cooks at Home so much is that it is an inspirational guide into the Golden Door lifestyle, a window into the original Golden Door Spa founded 50 years ago by visionary Deborah Szekely. There are articles and images that motivate, inspire and, for those who have visited the Spa, invoke cherished, happy memories. I enjoy giving it as a gift as a way of sharing my wonderful experiences as a guest at the Golden Door.
