Cooking Light What to Eat: A Real-World Guide to Making Smart Choices Review

Obviously inspired by the "Eat This, Not That" series, this is a similarly formatted and designed book that covers the basics of food and nutrition in a very accessible and visual way.
Smaller, square, glossy, and fully illustrated with color photos, it is divided into basic categories of foods, and gives general information and in some cases specific brand name recommendations. ( Unlike the "Eat This" books, only brand names getting a recommendation are mentioned). The focus is on supermarket rather than fast/restaurant foods, both whole and processed.
The information does not go into great depth, but even for those fairly knowledgeable about food there are some interesting facts.
The design is attractive overall, though a bit busy. The main design flaw is the many ( way too many) font sizes and types per page- using only a few different styles would have made this a cleaner looking, easier to read book. The photographs are attractive, though in some cases they are very general and don't add much to the book.
Other than the somewhat overbusy layout, my only other criticism is that I'd have appreciated more brand name mentions, and when specific products are not recommended that the brand name be mentioned- but then the Cooking Light brand does depend on advertising.
Overall, a good solid reference book that is not quite pocket sized but compact enough to take shopping with you.
( Am I wrong, or are the photos of steel cut oats and oat groats incorrect?)
